KARACHI: Dusty winds and light showers are expected to hit Karachi on Wednesday as a westerly system started entering Sindh’s coastal areas after causing heavy rains in parts of Balochistan, the meteorological department has said.

"The system is getting weaker as it travels over land," said Muhammad Tauseef, the chief meteorologist. "I would say Karachi might see 5 to 10 millimetres of rain."

Rains at this time of the year are unusual for Karachi but Tauseef said it was a onetime occurrence. "A low-pressure system was created over the Gulf of Oman. The sea was continuously feeding it moisture, intensifying it."

Balochistan’s Barkhan received 50mm of rain on Tuesday while Quetta recorded 30mm.
