Sri Lanka golfers steal the show

Hai slips, Thangaraja jumps into lead at amateur event.

KARACHI: Sri Lanka’s N Thangaraja stole the show on the second day of the National Amateur Golf Championship with a four-under-par 68, and is now the favourite to win the four-round event underway at the Royal Palm Golf Course in Lahore.

Thangarajam, who started the day with two-over 74, recorded five birdies to return with a gross of 142 to sit top.

Bangladesh Dulal Hossain shared top spot with a one-under-par 71. Third place has been jointly occupied by Sri Lanka’s N Ranga and locals – Waseem Rana and Ashiq Hussain – with a card of 144. Pakistan’s Ali Hai, who was leading after the first round, slipped to sixth after an ordinary show of 76.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka captured the International Team title after the conclusion of two rounds with a gross of 286, courtesy Thangaraja’s 142 and Ranga’s 146.
