Pakistan and the United States agreed to continue working together to curb the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) on Friday.

A US delegation led by, US Assistant Secretary for Asia and Pacific Security Dr Peter Lavoy, called on Interior Minister Rehman Malik and expressed appreciation for steps taken by Pakistan in countering IEDs.

US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter was also present at the meeting.

The interior minister asserted that he was waiting for the outcome of a parliamentary debate for new terms of engagement with the US. In response, the delegation expressed their respect for the parliamentary process. They added that it was the need of the hour for both nations to work together on common interests and common enemies.

The US has discussed the IED issue with Pakistan more than once, previously calling for a ban on fertilisers used in making IEDs.
