Polio vaccination: Health Dept, other officials to reply

Petition regarding alleged ineffectiveness of polio vaccines being administered to children.

The Lahore High Court on Friday sought replies from the Health Department director general, the Lahore DCO and others on a petition regarding alleged ineffectiveness of polio vaccines being administered to children. Justice Umar Ata Bandial sought replies from the respondents by April 16.

The petitioner, M Salman, a vaccinator suspended from service, alleged that the polio vaccine being imported was substandard and had lost its efficacy due to poor arrangements for its preservation. He said the polio vaccine needed to be kept at temperatures below 20 degrees centigrade He said the government had unfairly suspended vaccinators. The petitioner requested the court to take notice of the supply of substandard polio vaccine and order reinstatement of the suspended vaccinators.
