President Asif Ali Zardari continued his tirade against Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) – a party currently in power in Punjab and running a campaign against the president – for the second consecutive day, while the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief sided with the latter on Friday.

Zardari, during his address in Lahore, remarked that the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) could have taken the Punjab government to itself, but was “gracious” enough to hand it over to the PML-N.

The president stated that the PPP rested its trust with the PML-N and gave it a chance to prove itself, but instead it displayed “Pharaoh-ism”.

JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman, in order to express his support to the PML-N, said that the president has lowered himself politically after giving statements on Thursday regarding the funeral of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif’s father.

Rehman advised PML-N to not respond to the president’s remarks and said that the PPP’s politics is not that of reconciliation.

Alleging that the PPP wants to reopen Nato supply routes, Rehman announced boycotting the Parliamentary Committee on National Security which is reviewing the foreign policy.

@H Chaudhry: Sir with due respect PPP never made an election alliance with JUI, JI or any such extreme rightwing party. Their only alliance has been after the elections and people have given not so clear verdict. Regards, Mirza
