SHABQADAR:

Lawyers from separate parts of the tribal areas have set up a protest camp at Peshawar High Court, demanding that the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court be extended to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

In August 2011, the government had extended the Political Parties Act to the tribal areas and also made changes to the clauses of the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR)’s  Collective Responsibility Act. Ejaz Mohmand, the President of the Fata Lawyers forum told The Express Tribune that the changes had not been implemented as yet.

“The people of Fata are still burning in the flames of this draconian law” he said. He explained that according to the new procedure, all suspects should be brought before the court within 24 hours. The lawyers have filed a petition against the tribunal and it will be heard on 12th April, he said.
