The regional director of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Dr Kim Gwang-Jo, on Saturday lauded the role of Lok Virsa in preserving the “rich and magnificent culture of Pakistan”.

The regional director expressed these views during his visit with his entourage to the National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage at Shakaparian.

The UNESCO officials were given a tour of the institute and shown various displays at the Pakistan National Museum of Ethnology, popularly known as the Heritage Museum. The officials were also informed about the role of Lok Virsa in documenting, preserving and disseminating tangible and intangible cultural heritage.

The UNESCO regional director appreciated Lok Virsa’s role and took keen interest in the museum displays, particularly the dioramas on Zardozi work (needle work on bridal dresses); architectural crafts; and the beautiful wooden carved doors collected from old houses (Havelis) of rural Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
