Increasing Accidents: Protest against police negligence, frequent accidents

Man in Punjab run over by speeding truck taken to hospital, but died on the way.

Some 100 people gathered in Millat Town area on Tuesday to protest against traffic police for failing to take action against speeding which they said caused frequent accidents, many resulting in casualties.


Residents of Sargodha Road held a demonstration after an elderly man, Yaseen, resident of the same area, was run over allegedly by a speeding truck. Yaseen was taken to a hospital with but died on the way.

The protesters placed the body on the road and chanted slogans against the traffic police.

They accused the police of criminal negligence in this regard. Protesters said that traffic police had failed to regulate laws.

Hanif, one of the protesters, said that the wardens were quite efficient when it came to giving people tickets. “Where do they go when drives run over citizens and flee?” he said.

The protesters dispersed after Station House Officer Abid Zafar reached the scene along with police personal. He assured them that the truck driver will be arrested soon and action will be taken  against him.
