CHINIOT:

A woman was shot and killed in Pango Mor on Saturday allegedly by her brother for bringing a bad name to the family by leaving her husband. He also shot dead his mother, who tried to prevent the killing.

Sadar Rajoa police have sent the bodies of the deceased women – Iqra Bibi and Kausar Bibi – to Chiniot district headquarters (DHQ) hospital for post-mortem examination. They said they had yet to receive a complaint for registration of an FIR. They added that a case against the suspect, Faisal Samar, and his accomplices – an uncle, Aman Ullah, and two cousins, Haq Nawaz and Zafar – could be lodged by the police once the autopsy report was available.

Iqra Bibi’s brother Muhammad Jameel, the sole witness to the incident, told police that Samar had taken her decision to leave her husband as an insult to the family.

He said on Saturday Samar tried to persuade Iqra to return to her husband. He opened fire on the girl on her refusal. A bullet hit their mother Kausar Bibi who had tried to prevent the shooting. Both women died on the spot.

Jameel said Iqra Bibi resented the marriage saying that her husband belonged to a different caste.

Shame on the people who use "honor" as an excuse to kill someone. Honorable person does not shoot his mother or sister! All matters can be sorted out with proper dialogue. Besides, if the girl didn't want to be with her husband, she shouldn't be forced to. I hate such barbaric people, they should be erased from the society in a manner that serves as a deterrent to any such incident in the future!
