KARACHI:

The Sindh alternate energy minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid MPA, Shaharyar Khan Mahar, presented a privilege motion in the Sindh Assembly. According to Mahar, he has been trying to speak to the chief engineer of the Sukkur Barrage, Agha Aijaz Pathan, with reference to a bridge that he claims has allegedly been damaged because of the irrigation department’s negligence.

While Mahar noted that the bridge (on RD 83 Rice Canal) is in his constituency and is a link between the Sukkur and Shikarpur districts, he has not been able to get in touch with Pathan to register the issue.

Mahar said that he had only spoken to the official once, but Pathan has not answered any of Mahar’s calls since. The issue has also been brought up with the Sindh chief minister, Qaim Ali Shah. The issue was deferred to Wednesday in the hope that the departments etc could provide a response to Mahar by then.

Two resolutions, one honouring Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi on his 69th death anniversary and another paying tribute to the president’s fifth address to the parliament and congratulating the people of Sindh on the achievement, were passed unanimously.

Pakistan Muslim League-Functional MPA Syeda Marvi Rashdi’s adjournment motion to discuss the regularisation of the National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses staff was denied on grounds that it did not meet admissibility requirements.
