KARACHI:
An organisation behind 55 Christian conversions went public with its latest case, saying that it was needed given the recent condemnations.
Ilyas and Rani Masih came to the Karachi Press Club with the Khidmat-e-Ummat Foundation with their four sons and two daughters. Ilyas said that he was impressed by Islam and wanted to convert. “Rani also showed interest after I talked about it.” He said. “I did not force my wife and children. I asked them to live their own life if they wanted to, and told them that I will still support them financially. But my wife insisted that she was with me.”
After the parents converted, their children between the ages of four and 12 years followed suit. “My wife and I informed our children about converting to Islam and they had to convert as well,” Ilyas said. He works as a rickshaw driver and lives in a rented house in Khuda ki Basti, Lyari. “I informed my relatives and extended family before converting but they did not believe me,” he said. “I am really excited that my Muslim brothers have welcomed me warmly.” The family was flanked by members of the foundation, Tariq Mehmood Ghazi, Shahzad Ahmed, Qari Amjad Ali, on both sides. They stressed that the family was not pressurised. “They contacted us and we helped them embrace Islam,” they said.
However, the foundation decided that a press conference was needed, given the current climate.
“The activists of ‘so-called’ civil society condemn the conversion of Dr Hafsa and Faryal Bibi,” said Qari Muhammad Amjad, the general secretary, referring to two cases of Hindu woman.
These two cases have assumed national proportion and the women Lata Kumari and Rinkle Kumari have been summoned by the Supreme Court. The matter has been discussed in the National Assembly and even the president has come under pressure to stop forced conversions. Legislation is expected to be in the works.
Amjad said they will give Ilyas’s family financial help. “We’ll also support the children in acquiring a better education and we plan to build houses for newly converted families in Surjani,” he said.
Ilyas Masih’s new name is Muhammad Ilyas and Rani is now Khadija. The children’s names were changed from Sonia to Alishba, Jesus to Muhammad Aslam, Maho to Hunbal, Badal to Muhammad Shahbaz, Dawood to Muhammad Dawood and Kaki to Ambreen.
While answering a question, Ilyas said that deciding to convert was not an easy decision and he was ready to face his peers and relatives. “I want to visit Raiwind as soon as possible and pray to Allah to give me strength.”
Although the KUF has been working for a long time it was registered around eight years ago. Its head office is at Jamia Masjid Quba-e-Ahle Hadith, in Sector 7-D of Surjani Town. There is also another branch in Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s Block-6.
According to Amjad, the organisation runs mosques and seminaries in Surjani Town, Mangho Pir and Gulshan-e-Tauheed. They provide monthly rations, house rent and other such services and financial assistance to needy families.

@Beatle:
I haven't taken birth in muslim family and find it insulting for you to claim that I am muslim by birth. I have no issues if you want to believe that you got the best, most saleable product in world which is one shot solution for all the miseries. However, it is ingenious when you drag me into your marketing propoganda.
@ZYX: Brother I have been commenting on this PAK news site for quite some time and I found that ET runs its own secular agenda maligning ISLAM, same is the case with every other muslims states where seculars have media and foreign backing. If you don't know ET is affiliated with the news paper Herald tribune. SO you can't expect impartial news from ET.
Hope you post my comment ET, if you respect freedom of speech that is.
@ZYX: Ur exactly right same has been happening with me, Pro Islamic users get blocked by ET
They have freely shifted from christianity to islam, now their doors are closed and are chained to a religion. They lost their right of choice and questioning.
Just look at the intolerance towards Muslims being displayed here in the comments. No "moderating" of these types of comments by ET...but anybody who disagrees with ET's anti Islamic themes gets blocked. The ISI should look into ET and those who are behind it. I for one am not some weak daffodil....lemme tell you right now ET...you are now a marked entity
If muslims are converted to some other religion by such appeasments then will this mulla's will accept that with tolerence. Surely not........then you can see their real ugly motives. These mullas should be charged with obstructing fundaments rights of the citizens and should be put behind the bars then only these forced conversions will stop
“I am really excited that my Muslim brothers have welcomed me warmly.”
Muslim brothers behave like humans while welcoming somebody to Islam. Muslim brothers behave like monsters while somebody's leaving Islam.
Good luck Ilyas .. you have entered by choice. Please Never think of comming back now .. because you can no more excercise your free will any more.. they call it complete submission.
Am I allowed to comment?
Oh yes...increase the flock by hook or crook...good going!! Insanity, thy name is Pakistan..
the two bearded individuals are gloating at what they consider a superb achievement in a one sided game, where anyone who is not on the same wavelength as them is not allowed to participate. The two so called good doers would have been livid if the situation was reversed - they would have been leading rabid mobs to pull the place down and burn the apostates.
Why this change in names upon conversion though? Why this obliteration of the previous identity?
Ah please! If this isn't a coerced conversion than what is? Faced with a life of penury what other choice did this marginalized family have? A true Muslim would have helped them without expecting a quid pro quo.
RSS accuses christian missionaries of doing the same (financial help) to poor dalits in India.
Gods of middle eastern religions are desperate and feel dejected. That must be the reason for looking for new recruits! Followers of Abrahmic religions have reduced God to a contestant of popularity contest!
ET has exploited the news with its title...
What the heck.......
Look at their faces....poor people.....do they seem to have the mental capacity to accept Islam logically.....it's just financial exploitation....I wonder why Muslims don't show tolerance when some of them convert to Christianity or atheism ( atheism is a current and more prevalent phenomenon)?
according to research 70% of conversion to islam in america revert to their previous religion, what if someone wants to reverts after few months or years in pakistan.
ET will u now believe it that these cases were false and they were not forced conversions??? I guess u still can't digest it
None of them looks any happy at the "conversion". Funny that.
so they get rations and a house, good investment by the poor man.
@ZYX:
to be truthful, this is a case where no one will complain, and rightly so as nobody has the right to either, because they are grown-up adults, and they can change their faith without consulting anyone. however, to kidnap an underage girl, and force her to leave her faith, and accept other, is downright crime. it may go unpunished in pakistan but would be dealt with severely in many other countries.
@ZYX:
Same has been case with me.
ET must be livid....they've been "moderating" all my posts and won't allow a single one through no matter how benign. Freedom of speech only applies when you're a baygharat liberal I guess
What if a muslim convert to other religion? Is it allowed according to the religion of "tolerance"?
@Beatle: A child is not born with any religious beliefs just like he has no idea about politics, economy and society.
Whom these mullas are fooling? These people has been exploited for being poor. Was it necessary to help them financially only after conversion? Same game has been going on in subcontinent for last 1000 years.
With the conversion of this poor rickshaw puller with monthly rations, house rent etc, Pakistan has become more pure and strong. The faces of these converts (not victims) are glowing with happiness and smiles if you seriously observe. The commercial wing of Islam has done commendable job though some amount they pocket. Now it has to be decided in which sect they settle. Next auction is due next month, the bidders should be ready with their money.
According to Muslim beleifs, every new-borne child is a muslim by default, regardless his parents' beleifs. Its the circumstances and atmosphere of his up-bringing influencing to the other religions. In this light, if Allah guides someone to the right path, we should not use the word ""convert''" to Islam. Rather appropriate word is ""revert"" to Islam - his original religion. Thx for your attention and consideration.
Mashallah great choice. may Allah help them.
