Doing business in Pakistan

Philip Morris’ decision of closing down its factory in Mandra is a very disheartening development.

RAWALPINDI: Philip Morris’ decision of closing down its factory in Mandra is a very disheartening development and even more sorrowful is the reason behind this move. If there are no means to clamp down on the tax-evasion that is prevalent in our economy, then such developments are bound to take place. The loss of revenue and employment that will happen after the factory closes down is a cause of concern. Doing business in Pakistan has become increasingly difficult for tax-paying business houses. Pakistan claims to be a business-friendly country. This is an absurd notion. Being a small business owner, I am well aware of the woes of the business community and all those who are trying to earn an income through lawful means.
