KARACHI:

The Dawoodi Bohra community is celebrating the 101st birthday of their 52nd leader, His Holiness Dr Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin (TUS). His birthday is celebrated on 20th Rabi ul Akhir (as per the Dawoodi Bohra calendar).

Traditionally, celebrations begin from Eid Milad-un-Nabi (pbuh) and culminate on Syedna Burhanuddin’s birthday. For the past few weeks, different community centres in the city have organised programmes to celebrate the occasion, such as naat programmes by children, fireworks, medical camps, seminars on health among others. A cake was also cut at the Adam Masjid Jamaat Khana and was distributed among all the other community centres. As part of the celebrations, there will be a Rasm-e-Saify (mass wedding) on Sunday. Around 46 couples will be married at Taheri Masjid.

A very warm congratulations to Bohra community all around the world...on their sipiritual leader's birthday.

After reading this news and the Mass wedding news, the thing which came to my mind and I assume it can come to anyone's mind that why they are publishing it I mean making it public?? I know there are thousands of readers who might have known for the 1st time that "oh so this is another sect of Islam"...I personally believe, it is a very good way to educate common readers...about the different communities...if we know things...it will create a tolerance and inter sect harmony....as sometimes....we 1st time hear or read about a different section of Islam we go blank....as we lack in knowledge.....and that blank mind makes us panic sometimes....so i really appreciate the Express tribune...by publishing such news...and helping readers to be aware and educate them about the different communities....and yes not to mention providing the authentic information. And I suggest other communities i.e. Bhai,Parsis,Ismailies etc should tell the common reader about themselves....and making them to feel naturally that despite the fact that the community is not big in number but yet they have a faith and we all shall respect that as they respect ours...and live in harmony

Congratulations to the Syedna on his birthday. This auspicious occasion should be used to make an announcement to his followers to end the practice of female genital mutilation that our people still follow. We follow every advice of our leader,so an order from him would put an end to this ritual.
