Plots for judges: Advocate general summoned on Apr 9

LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned the advocate general for assistance on April 9 in an appeal seeking the cancellation of plots allotted to 28 LHC judges during Nawaz Sharif’s first tenure as prime minister. The bench of Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan and Justice Muhammad Ameer Bhatti was hearing an appeal filed by Advocate Saifullah Ziaee.  The petitioner submitted that he had challenged the allotment of plots in 1993 on the grounds that the plots could only be allotted to officials who submitted affidavits testifying that neither they nor their families possessed any residential plot. However, the judges submitted certificates instead of affidavits and the petition was dismissed in 1994 “by a judge who was also involved in the matter,” said Ziaee.
