‘Movements in Silence’ opens at Gallery 6

ISLAMABAD: An exhibition, titled Movements in Silence, will open on Thursday at Gallery 6, showcasing the work of three painters.

One of the painters, Akram Spaul, has about 15 exhibitions to his credit in more than 21 years, but this is his first in Islamabad. Mostly, the subject of his work is the lives of the middle- and lower-classes.

He highlights the physical settings and material conditions of their busy lives. His attention to detail and the use of bright colours on a white background enhances the effect of what Spaul aims to highlight; themes of life and routine. The optical effects of light add to the realistic feel of his work by emphasising the shadows. The viewer can almost feel the presence of the person depicted in the picture.

Omar Farid presents psychedelic narratives and is an expert with both pen and ink colours. He represents his imagination in well composed, powerful work with mind-trapping and captivating images. Details of pointillism, geometric abstraction, miniscule multiple lines, shapes and forms are all visible in his art work. Farid’s work reflects his experience and it is clear that his years of painting have allowed him to perfect his craft.

Shahla Rafi, who is also exhibiting in Pakistan for the first time, has been painting landscapes since the 1970s and has showcased her work in France and the UK. Her use of contrast with different colours and shades makes the painting look like an actual picture.

Dr Arjumand Faisel, curator of Gallery 6, said, “The artists are producing the finest paintings of true art.”
