LAHORE:

“There’s a lot besides academics that needs to be provided to students to groom and nurture them,” said Samreen Azam, executive creative director of the Beaconhouse National University’s student body.

She was speaking at the closing ceremony of the three-day Bestival 2012 on Sunday.

Azam said the event was organised to give students an opportunity to show their talents and provide them a platform to engage in extra-curricular activities.

Azam, who is in the final year of a Visual Communication Design degree, said, “We encouraged students from various schools to work together and interact with each other.”

There were 12 competitions including dramatics, photography, poetry and debates.

Azam said that the highlight of the event was the fashion show_where students displayed amongst others a dress made from tissue papers_ and the anti-advertisement show.

Azam explained that the anti-ad competition required students to create advertisements to de-motivate viewers about things like smoking.

“We received the highest participation in the anti-ad event. It was amazing to see the ideas students came up with,” Azam said.

Students from more than 20 institutes including the University of Lahore, the Aitchison College, the Lahore College for Women University, the Punjab University, the Kinnaird College, the Lahore School of Economics, the FAST and the National University of Science and Technology.
