Nisar Sona (49kg), Mohammad Waseem (52kg), Naimatullah (56kg), Qadir Khan (60kg), and Haider Riaz (64kg) will leave for New Delhi on March 12, according to the federation.
“We’ve picked the best boxers for each category as we don’t want to lose to India,” said PBF Secretary Akram Khan. “I’m hopeful that our guys will do well. It’s a great chance for our boxers to prepare for the Olympics qualifiers and gauge their weaknesses in order for them to be improved upon.”
The PBF has yet to receive clearance from the government but Akram said that with over three weeks to go before the event, a green signal will be received in time. He added that negotiations were underway between the two federations of hosting bilateral ties on regular basis.
“The two countries have failed to play against each other in any other major sports so we can act as ambassadors.”
It has also been learnt that the Indians will be travelling to Pakistan in May on a reciprocal basis and the PBF wants to arrange bouts for junior boxers in order to establish backup for the future.
