The jets targeted hideouts in the tribal Orakzai district and at least four compounds were hit, they said, in the latest surge of fighting between government security forces and militants in the Afghan border areas.
"At least 20 Taliban militants were killed in the bombing," a military official in Peshawar said.
Local intelligence officials confirmed the air strikes.
The hideouts belonged to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commanders Mulla Tufan and Commander Moheyuddin, a security official said. There are reports that Moheyuddin may have been killed in the bombing, he said.
A military official in Peshawar said "four hideouts have been destroyed and the death toll may go up".

Good to see militants being bombed.
@US Centcom: Dear Centcom, please dont tell us that Pakistan and US has made sacrifices together, because your governent still believes Pakistan is collaborating with the taliban. The truth is, as i see it, both sides are playing each other. After the attack on the Pakistani border posts, america appears to be worst because you guys are attacking Pakistanis directly. And after the attack, the fact that no official apology has been offered at any level, implies that america is not that serious in resolving the conflict and also resolving issues between the two allies, Pakistan and America. The terrorism problem in the region is more closely related to the socio/economic conditions of the region and not religion. Only if USA can direct some of the money its paying for the upkeep of the army, and give those people some exposure, there might be a longterm solution to the 'global' problem
Dear readers,
The US fully supports Pakistan in its fight against the militants. We’ve repeatedly witnessed these militants target and kill innocent civilians in order to destabilize the nation of Pakistan. The U.S. strongly condemns all acts of terror, and encourages Pakistan to eliminate the threat that continues to haunt the nation. The U.S. and Pakistan have come too far and made too many sacrifices to now show any leniency to these terrorists who are set on infiltrating the region with their terrorist activities. Our forces have been targeted by these terrorists on both sides of the border, and it is easy to see that they view us as a common threat preventing them from achieving their evil objectives. Therefore, the need to improve the level of cooperation between our nations is at all-time high. We have achieved great success by working together, and there is no doubt that we can achieve our common objectives in the region by working side by side.
@shaheem, Thanks for telling the truth about qabailis who invaded kashmir in 1947 .
I sure hope there were no civilians as always has been the case in the past...............
How many are "innocent" civilians? Why did it take so long.
shame on us,we have sold ourself to american dollars and now killing our own brothers.it was these qabailis who captured half kashmir from hari singh in name of pakistan and this is how we repay them.
@ Akhtar
uhhh yes we do. These militants are bombed using a range of precision guided munitions which includes laser guided weapons. We even produce some.
Our intel on such militant hideouts aren't faulty either.
Bravo ! Bombing your own people and territory using fighter jets - not many countries can boast of this great achievement.
good, they all deserve to die, when they dont think of us while susicde bombing why should we think of them??
Good job!! These are the people who are killing our brave soldiers and there should be no mercy or negotiations with them
Who did the jet belonged to? If Pakistan Army.. its victiry on Terrorists and If US then they attacked innocent civilians
Way to go.
Which country can kill their own people with fighter jets? Why can't the police or the army go in? How do you know that the dead were militants when you drop bombs from1000's of feet. These bombs cannot be accurate as they are not LGB (laser guided bombs) which we don't have. Killing innocent people will inflame the tribals who never forgive nor forget! The army must be honest & allow media to go into all strife torn regions in Pakistan.
