Capital City Police Officer Ahmad Raza Tahir on Monday briefed the members of the Standing Committee on Narcotics Control on an awareness raising campaign underway in educational institutions of the city.
The CCPO informed the committee that 10,627 cases were registered and 11,400 suspects arrested in a campaign against drug trafficking in 2011. He said 1,519 kg hashish, 778 sedative pills, 2,146 injections and 70,795 liquor bottles were seized in these raids.
CCPO Tahir said investigation teams would soon be formed to crack down on drug traffickers.
To this end, he said, enforcement teams had updated lists of suspects. He said police teams at all city’s exits were checking vehicles entering and leaving the city.
The meeting held at the CCPO’s office was chaired by Standing Committee chairman Murtaza Javed Abbasi. DIG (Operations) Ghulam Mehmood Dogar and SSP Shariq Kamal were also present on the occasion.
