Election tribunal reserves judgment in fake degree case

LHC commission reserves decision regarding disqualification of Punjab parliamentary secretary.

LAHORE: An election tribunal comprising Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court on Friday reserved its judgment on an election petition seeking disqualification of the Punjab parliamentary secretary for Religious Affairs and Auqaf Iftikhar Ahmad Khan.

Iftikhar Khan had been elected to Punjab assembly on a Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz ticket from PP-81, Jhang IX.

Iqbal Khan who lost 2008 election as an independent candidate against Iftikhar Khan, had alleged that the MPA had fake a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. He alleged that Khan had obtained his degree from Azad Jammu and Kashmir University, and contended that this was not authentic.

He contended that the MPA did not qualify under article 62 & 63 of the Constitution and as such was not competent to hold the assembly member seat.

He requested the court to declared Iftikhar Khan disqualified on the basis of having a degree got through impersonation
