Cross-border education: Indo-Pak scientists to collaborate on research

A six-member delegation of scientists from Indian National Science Academy (INSA)is on a three-day visit to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistani and Indian scientists on Tuesday agreed to identify specialised institutions for collaborative works, research, joint workshops, seminars and exchange of scientists, university professors and students.

A six-member delegation of scientists from the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), headed by INSA President Dr Krishan Lal, is on a three-day visit to Pakistan on the invitation of Pakistan Academy of Sciences (PAS) President Prof Attaur Rahman.

On the first day, the delegation held a meeting with PAS scientists in Islamabad. Dr Rahman briefed them about the status of science and technology and higher education in Pakistan.

Scientists from the two academies discussed ways to develop scientific and technological collaboration between the two countries.

Dr Rahman said, “India and Pakistan can benefit from each other’s experiences in the domain of science and technology which can lead to greater cooperation in technical fields. This collaboration shall cost fewer resources as both the countries are contiguous and are aware of each other’s culture and languages.” He said this was a historic visit of such high-level scientists from India to Pakistan.

Dr Krishan Lal underlined the need for science and technology cooperation between the two countries and said that such cooperation would be in the interest of both nations.

The delegation will also visit NUST, Quaid-i-Azam University and Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) to deliver lectures and share their experiences with PARC officials and get feedback from them. Professor Rahman also hosted a lunch in honour of the delegation.
