ISLAMABAD:

In what seemed to be the prologue of a horror movie, the city police arrested four people including a woman on Friday after they were caught trying to dig up the grave of a deceased woman.

The deceased woman’s son, Malang Shah, lodged a complaint with the Shahzad Town Police Station alleging that Imran, Riaz, Ashraf and Nighat Bibi were digging up his mother’s grave when he happened to be nearby and caught them red-handed.

He believed that the suspects were inspired by black magic and were planning to bury a taviz (amulet) in his mother’s grave to inflict damage to someone. The police said that all four suspects hail from Punjab and are uneducated. They believe that the suspects were sent by an amil (exorcist) to perform some kind of black magic. “The female suspect, Nighat Bibi, was told by the amil that by burying the taviz in a grave, her estranged husband would return to her,” said a police official.

She convinced her young son to travel to Islamabad with her to find a grave ‘suitable’ to their plans. However, their plan was busted when Shah caught them while visiting his mother’s grave.

Later, the whole neighbourhood gathered at the scene and took the four suspects into their custody, until the police arrived to shift them to police station. They were booked for desecrating a grave.
