NAB takes three NRO beneficiaries into custody

Ismail Qureshi, Adnan Khawaja, and Ahmed Riaz Shaikh have been taken into custody by NAB in connection with NRO.

ISLAMABAD /LAHORE: With the Supreme Court ordering reopening of cases suspended in the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday started taking action, Express News reported.

The NAB took into custody three NRO beneficiaries from Islamabad and Lahore. This included Ismail Qureshi, the former establishment division secretary, from Lahore.

Adnan Khawaja, whose appointment as the state-run Oil and Gas Development Corporation’s (OGDC) Chairman had been opposed for being a beneficiary of the NRO, from Islamabad.

The third former government official taken into custody was Ahmed Riaz Shaikh – who had been appointed as additional director Federal Investigation Agency, from Isalmabad.

They will face an inquiry, presenting evidence in their defence. If they are unable to satisfy their inquiry officer, they will be formally arrested.

Nab is due to submit a progress report when the Supreme Court next convenes on the NRO case.
