ISLAMABAD:

An alleged human trafficker was arrested from Benazir Bhutto Airport on Thursday for attempting to travel on a forged passport.

According to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the suspect confessed during preliminary investigations that he had paid Rs300,000 to an agent to obtain a passport with a valid visa to Greece.

The agent affixed the suspect’s photograph on the passport, while the remaining details were left unaltered, said the FIA official.

The tempering with the photograph was detected by FIA officials at the airport, and confirmed after inspection through machines.

An FIA official said they believed the suspect belongs to a group of human traffickers in Greece.

“He could be a part of the group which smuggles people to Greece via Iran and Turkey,” the official said, adding that the suspect had not confessed to being involved in human trafficking.
