Corruption: Food Dept starts inquiry

Sahiwal deputy director Gondal is accused of underreporting wheat stock and selling the remaining on his own.

LAHORE: The Food Department has initiated an inquiry into corruption and abuse of authority allegations against two officials in Sahiwal on directions of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.

Complaints were received at the secretariat against Sahiwal deputy director Khalid Mukhtar Gondal and food controller Muhammad Hafeez accusing them of corruption in purchase and supply of wheat. Gondal is accused of underreporting wheat stock and selling the remaining on his own. He is also accused of charging Rs4 per wheat bag stored at the department’s godowns and Rs5 per bag for allowing supply from the storage facility. A Chief Minister’s Secretariat official said instructions have been issued to the Food Department to probe the allegations and punish them if found guilty.
