The college is expected to become operational in October, 2010 and classes will start in November, 2010. After the notification was received, University of Sargodha has become the country’s first ever medical, agriculture and engineering university. Jamia Sargodha vice-chancellor Dr Muhammad Akram confirmed the notification and said that this was great news for the people of Sargodha and surrounding areas.
“We aim to make this institution one which provides first-class, affordable education to people of the district as well as surrounding areas,” Akram said, adding that local universities were the need of the hour. “The only way to encourage and spread higher education at the local level is to promote technical education and training at the local level,” he said. The vice chancellor said that the engineering college would prove helpful in imparting education to students both in and outside of Punjab.
