Tennis: International event kicks off today

KARACHI: The main round of the UBL International Hard Court Tennis Championship will kick off today, with Pakistan number one Aqeel Khan starting out as the top-seed.  The event will feature five Sri Lankans, besides Pakistan number two and second-seed Yasir Khan, Meanwhile, in the final qualifying round yesterday, Zubair Arif brushed aside Salman Butt 6-1, 6-1, while Mohammad Mazhar outplayed Hasaan Siddiqi 6-1, 6-0. Talha Zubair overcame Haris Itlifat’s challenge 1-6, 6-1, 6-3. The women’s main round, as well as the under-18 and under-14 boys’ singles events will also take place today.
