Quaid Trophy: WAPDA lose out on final

PIA, ZTBL to clash in Quaid Trophy finale, HBL demoted to Division II.

Wapda were denied a place in the final of the Quaid-i-Azam Trophy following an 82-run loss against NBP, according to information provided by the Pakistan Cricket Board.


Wapda finished third on the points table behind ZTBL and PIA, who will now contest the final of the country’s premier first-class tournament. NBP, who were in danger of being relegated to Division II, bowled Wapda out for 221 to confirm their place in the top tier at the expense of defending champions HBL, who were demoted.

The left-arm spin duo of Qaiser Abbas, who finished with four for 57, and Raza Hasan (three for 60) proved to be the stars, and despite fighting knocks by Riffatullah (51) and Amir Sajjad (40), ensured an easy win for NBP.

Earlier, NBP had declared on their overnight score of 215 for six setting Wapda 304 to win.

Sialkot crush Faisalabad

Elsewhere, Sialkot sent Faisalabad reeling to a 185-run defeat after fine bowling by Prince Abbas and Mohammad Imran, who both finished with four-wicket hauls.

Chasing an improbable 427, Faisalabad were shot out for 241 after resuming on 47 for two. Zeeshan Asif’s battling 50 and Shoaib Shah’s 44 were the only significant contributions from the visitors.

Blues draw with Islamabad

Karachi Blues were able to salvage a draw against Islamabad after having trailed the visitors for most of the match.

Resuming on 129 for four, Karachi battled to 303 all out, setting the visitors 170 to win in 25 overs. Islamabad, however, ended the match on 78 for no loss. For the Blues, Faraz Patel stroked a fine 77, while Javed Mansoor’s 56 and Asad Baig’s 50 proved crucial in carving out a draw.

The final will be played under floodlights from December 24 at National Stadium, Karachi.
