Honour crime: Two women killed in two days

‘Mariya killed by brother, Bushra by brother-in-law’.

Two women were killed in Faisalabad over the last two days allegedly by their relatives who suspected them of having illicit relationships.


According to the FIR registered in Bhowana police station, Mariya, a resident of Chak 221-JB, was shot and killed on Friday by her brother, Sada Abbas, who had suspected her to having an illicit relationship with a neighbour. Complaint Muhammad Ameen, father of the deceased, stated in the FIR said the suspect killed his sister Mariya after an argument on Friday morning and fled from the scene. He said the two siblings had earlier had several argued over the issue.

Bhowana police said the body had been sent for an autopsy. They said raids were underway to arrest the suspect.

In another honour-killing incident in Shah Jewna police precincts on Thursday, Bushra Bibi was stabbed to death by her brother-in-law.

According to the FIR registered on a complaint filed by Muhammad Ismail, Bushra’s husband, his brother along with two accomplices, Shafiq and Ashraf, attacked Bushra on Thursday with a dagger after an argument over the allegations that she was seeing a man in the neighbourhood.

Bushra and Ismail had gotten married eight months ago. Shah Jewna police said the body had been sent for an autopsy. They said the suspects had fled from their houses.
