In response to a question, the Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Captain John F. Kirby added that the decision to open the supply routes is up to the Government of Pakistan.
The supply routes were closed by Pakistan as a consequence of the NATO airstrike on November 26 that led to the death of 24 Pakistani soldiers.
US wants Pakistani officers to return to coordination centers
Both spokespersons also addressed the subject of border coordination centers. On Monday, the Associated Press had reported that Pakistan had pulled out of two of the three border coordination centers. Little said, “I dont know when Pakistani personnel who pulled out from border coordination centers will return. The Pakistanis can move personnel as they wish, but we would like to return to business as usual at the border coordination centers.”
In response to another question, Little said that while a number of US officials had reached out to Pakistani officials after the NATO airstrike, including General Dempsey, Secretary Clinton and General Allen, “Secretary Panetta has not reached out at this point to Pakistani officials.” However, he said he would not rule out the possibility of him reaching out in the near future.
On the subject of President Zardari and rumours of his illness, Little said that while they did not want to comment, if he was suffering from an illness, they wished him well.
Both officials declined to comment on whether a US drone was in Iran’s custody.

guys you are missing the point, somebody in Pakistan or america wants escalation of this ties. If US attacks not even Saudi Arabia can stop it. Moreover the indian media is speculating the issue further which makes consolidation harsher. Its a strategic problem OIC cannot afford a war currently, its even dangerous to think about it. Gadaffi claimed he will payback US dearly but see they won even without setting foot in the land, I'm not questioning the will of Pakistani's but economically if they destroy us it will further division of pakistan. I already seen a strategic map of territory under control which shows NWFP under afghanistan and an independent baloch territory. Perhaps that what they're planning thats the reason for this escalation of rift.
Yes, Pakistani Forces will return to Coordination center......but this time well equipped......watch your steps !
Yeah, no impact indeed. Only the soldiers are now living on frozen MREs (Meals ready to eat) even in garrisons rather then eating in proper dinning halls with the conventional food they would have. And after a few days, as I predict they will be purchasing from the local markets. LOL, America looks good when trying to be innocent and shrugging off!
Americans have find out that smuggling is better and cheaper than legal trade. They will get oil from Iran and other goods from Pakistan and China.
As long as narcotics trucks are rolling there is no problem.
Pakistan is country where we generally take myopic decisions. Reality dawned upon a dreamer is painful. Sometimes, hard to digest. Afghanistan is landlocked country. Pakistan, as naughbor has her obligations under International Law and bilateral agreements for tranport sector of Afghanistan. When the hype and smokescrene will be over, in a clear blue day our decisions will be realistic and prudent.
@anony:
$1,000 dollars per gallon, where did that happen? Actually oil prices went down today in the civilized world.
You people just post whatever stupidity comes to your head.
Unlike Pakistani Army, US army does not state blatant lies on record. There are repercussions if later they are found to be lying. You guys think at the same time that US attacked deliberately and they did not make preparations for the aftermath. How illogical and naive you can get?
Lies.
They are getting a gallon of oil at rate of $400. And winter is coming so expect further increase
NATO is in deep deep trouble.
THere is no significant impact on troops :). Perhaps they wanted to say that ONLY COST OF KEEPING THOSE TROOPS HAS TRIPPLED.
LOL WE PAKISTANI CAN UNDERSTAND HOW U FEEL NOW .......
Since Pakistan is not getting much money(some 400+Rs) for each container that passess through Pakistan and it is not affecting NATO forces in Afghanistan as per the report. This supply line should be permenantly closed.
Pakistan must block the Nato supply permanently. Government must not kneel this time. We have to get out of this war on terror.
lol yeah right.. Read an article on oilprices.com which stated otherwise. 300 Nato trucks cross pakistani border every DAY! Pakistan is the shortest and cheapest way of transporting the goods used in their illegal wars. Oil prices have hicked to $1000 per gallon is some places. So it's hilarious to read that the US has not been affected. Such Arrogance! Bring them to their knees!
unlike pakistan, usa always has some contingency plan
