Ashura procession: ‘No traffic on roads leading to route’

Chief Traffic Officer says roads surrounding points where majalis are to be organised will remain closed for traffic.

All roads leading to the route of the main processions on 9th and 10th of Muharram will be closed for traffic, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Sardar Muhammad Asif Khan said on Saturday. He was speaking to media about the traffic police’s preparation for the Ashura processions. 


He said roads surrounding the points where majalis are to be organised will also remained closed for traffic. In sum, he said, as many as 150 points will be sealed for traffic.

The CTO said that four DSPs, 51 senior traffic wardens, 834 traffic wardens and 123 constables will be deployed to regulate traffic  in the city during the two days. He said heavy traffic will not be allowed to enter the city and that the buses headed for the GeneralBus Stand will go through Sargodha Road.  The CTO said strict action will be taken against officials found shirking work during the two days.
