Spirit of sacrifice: Homage paid to Imam Hussain

Speakers appreciate people’s sacrifices against militants in Swat.

Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) raised his voice against tyranny and falsehood. His message transcends time and frontiers. He is a role model for the whole world.


Historian and writer Parvez Shaheen said Imam Hussain was a role model for the entire world, during a literary event held in Mingora to honour the sacrifices rendered by Imam Hussain (RA), his companions and his relatives on Friday. The event was organised by Malakand Arts Council and was attended by prominent scholars, writerrs, poets, Malakand Commissioner Dr Fakhre Alam, District Coordination Officer Swat Kamran Rehman and Swat Assistant Commissioner Naeem Akhtar.

Fazal Mahmood Rokhan, the event’s organiser, said The people of Swat witnessed a situation similar to that of Karbala and valiantly challenged the militants. “Poets, writers and scholars have rendered great sacrifices against terrorists by promoting literary activities and the government should acknowledge their efforts by publishing their work,” said Rokhan.

The commissioner, who was the chief guest at the event, thanked the participants and said these events reflect the true image of Swat which promotes peace and harmony. Renowned poets Abdur Rahim Roghaney, Hanif Qais, Zafar Ali Naz, Sikandar Hayat Kaskar, Hamid Iqbal Gul Rang Zai, and Shamsul Iqbal Shams eulogised Hazrat Iman Hussain (RA) in their poems and were greatly appreciated by the audience.
