Wrestled back: Retired govt servant reunited with family

ISLAMABAD:

In a brief exchange of fire, the city police on Thursday recovered a retired government officer from the custody of his kidnappers in an area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). The kidnappers, however, managed to escape in the cover of the night.

Muhammad Naeem, a retired chief engineer of Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) Islamabad, was abducted from Shehzad Town in October. The kidnappers had demanded his family Rs10 million as ransom for his release.

A case was registered with the Shehzad Town police on October 15. Investigations of Naeem’s phone call records helped the police arrest of the suspects, who, upon interrogation, led the police to Kohati Pahari in K-P where his accomplices were keeping Naeem.

A team of Shehzad Town police, with the help of the local police, raided the hideout in the night. After a brief exchange of fire, the kidnappers managed to escape from the scene, leaving Naeem behind in one of the rooms of the building, his hands and legs tied with a rope.

He was brought back to Islamabad and united with his family.

The police said they are pursuing the suspects and assured that they will be arrested soon.
