Target killer: Alleged ‘underworld don’ caught

They claim that Patni was involved in 30 target killings, extortion and robbery cases.

KARACHI: A target killer and alleged ‘underworld don’ called Ghulam Patni was arrested by a special team of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday. They claim that Patni was involved in 30 target killings, extortion and robbery cases. CID SSP Muhammad Fayyaz Khan said that his department had received a report about Patni in a house in the Kharadar neighbouhood. The police seized illegal weapons, including a Kalashnikov, a 9mm pistol and two hand grenades from him. The SSP added that the former Sindh home minister Zulfiqar Mirza had nominated Patni in a conspiracy to kill him. In one of his many television appearances, Mirza had mentioned that there was a target killer who was affiliated with a major political party and was out to get him during his tour of Sindh. Patni confessed to being involved in at least 30 target killings, which included police officers, political workers and cricket bookies. Patni confessed to running an extortion network with 50 associates.
