Progress and toothpaste

July 19, 2010

DUBLIN: This is with reference to Aziz Akhmad’s article “Progress is like toothpaste” (July 19). The writer is absolutely correct in saying that Pakistan was never conceived as a theocratic state. As a matter of fact, all major religious parties opposed its creation. The irony is that now these same elements have hijacked the ideology of the state. Thankfully, these parties only have a nuisance value and have never been voted to power. If that had happened or if it ever happens Pakistan would become a security threat for its neighbours.
