Fire Incident: 25 injured as explosives blow up

The explosives belonged to a contractor who used them for construction purposes.

As many as 25 people were injured in Skardu on Wednesday night as explosive material stored in a house blew up after catching a fire, police said on Thursday.


“The explosives belonged to a contractor who used them for construction purposes and he has been taken into custody,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Sultan Azam told The Express Tribune.

He explained that the police was investigating on the cause of the fire and the quantity of explosives could not be ascertained.

According to the police, a liquefied petroleum gas cylinder also exploded in the blast, which created fear among residents of the area.

Sources at the Skardu District Hospital said that most of the injured suffered from minor injuries and were discharged after treatment.

According to eye-witnesses, the people injured in the incident were attending a wedding at an adjacent house. They rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire, and got injuries in the process.
