Attaining a degree is the first step toward success, said Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Barrister Masood Kausar at the University of Peshawar’s annual convocation 2010 held here on Saturday.
Urging teachers and students to focus on research the publications he said, “You are the only ones who can tell the world that Muslims are not terrorists but peace loving people.”
He said convocation is a milestone as it gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect where we are today and where we will be tomorrow.
He awarded 511 masters degrees in arts and sciences, eight PhDs and one MPhil degree.
A total of 26 gold medals and cash prizes were also awarded.
UoP Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Azmat Hayat Khan said in the last three years the university has established a Management Disaster Centre, three new hostels, started classes for FSc in Home Economics and have also installed generators in all hostels.
Nazia Aziz Khattak, a gold medallist, said, “I belong to Karak, a backward district of K-P and finally my hard work paid off, for me it’s like a dream come true.”
Faria Javed, another gold medallist, said, “I have been rewarded because of my hard work, my parents’ prayers and teachers’ contributions.”
The registrar of the university Dr Syed Fazle Hadi said hoped that the students would also keep excelling in the future.
