Addressing a meeting of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Hussain announced a ban on new gas connections for industrial, commercial and domestic consumers.
He said gas heaters will soon be replaced with solar heaters, considering the ongoing gas shortage.
The minister also told the meeting that a new law has been passed, making gas or petrol theft punishable with 14 years of imprisonment.
To combat fuel shortage, Hussain said petroleum exports to Afghanistan will be banned within 15 days, while custom duty will be imposed on transport of petroleum products across the border.
Lamenting that Pakistan has always lacked proper planning, Hussain said a new petroleum policy will be introduced soon.
