American beauty

Letter July 12, 2010

LOS ANGELES: This is with reference to Feryal Gauhar’s “American beauty” (July 12). In her well-known, fascinating style she is making, on behalf of the people of Pakistan, some very crucial points. It is becoming clear that a peaceful and equitable settlement of Afghanistan’s problem is needed and the Vietnam-like war needs to end. Fighting wars overseas with complete disregard for the plight of the common man has already discredited American administrations. These wars only benefit a few individuals. America should not impose pliable rulers to achieve short-term goals. There is a wide-spread belief in Pakistan that the present regime has been cleverly installed by America to replace military dictator with civilians. The American president got the Nobel Peace Prize and he needs to prove that he deserves it.
