Two police stations fight to get rid of body
The body was found between the Pak Colony and Shershah police stations on Friday afternoon but the authorities refused to own up and register a case. For at least four hours, Pak Colony SHO Abdul Moiz and Shershah SHO Shahid Jabbar, disagreed with each other. Jabbar then went ahead and complained to his senior officer who said that they should register the case.
SHO Jabbar told The Express Tribune that if the body was found in Miran Naka then it would be within his jurisdiction but the body was found at least 15 to 20 feet away from Miran Naka. “The Pak Colony SHO has done this to show that he has a lower crime rate,” said Jabbar. “Whenever there is a dispute over the police station boundaries he just puts it on us.” He added that he had complained to his DSP and SSP about the incident and hoped that this would not happen again.
SHO Moiz said that he had disowned the body when it was found because it was out of his jurisdiction. “There is a different police station in every street and so it takes a while to sort these issues.”
The senior police officers of both stations did not take any action as they thought it was routine behaviour. SSP Asif Ejaz Sheikh was very non-committal and said that nothing had happened. “Everything is fine, if anything had happened believe me I would have heard about it,” he said. The body was taken to Civil Hospital Karachi and shifted to the Edhi Morgue in Sohrab Goth later. The victim was tortured and shot at once.
