Utility Stores Corporation to open 2,000 stores

New outlets to create job opportunities.

ISLAMABAD: Utility Stores Corporation (USC) has planned to open 2,000 more stores across the country in order to provide essential consumer items to more people at reduced prices.     

“The new stores will not only provide the required economic relief to the middle and lower middle income people but at the same time it will create job opportunities for the unemployed young people in the country”, USC MD Sultan Mehmood said in an interview with APP on Friday.

He said that the Corporation was equally active in rural as well as urban areas and it would open 100 new stores in urban whereas the same number of stores would be opened in the rural areas. Currently USC is operating 34% in the urban areas and 66% in the rural areas, he said.

“The Corporation achieved sales of Rs47.89 billion in 2007-08, Rs48.73 billion in 2008-09, Rs52.93 billion in 2009-10 and Rs63.53 billion in 2010- 11”, he said and added that the Corporation is one of the largest organisations under the control of Ministry of Industries, having a network of 5,700 stores spread throughout the country.
