In your honour: SHC holds full court reference as judge retires

KARACHI: A full Sindh High Court (SHC) reference was held in honour of Justice Muhammad Athar Saeed as he finally laid down his robes on Wednesday afternoon after his last working day.

Justice Saeed was appointed on October 25, 2005, but did not work during the time Pervez Musharraf sent superior court judges packing. During this time, he was in the forefront of the struggle for the restoration of the judiciary.

The retired judge was showered with praise and appreciation from both the bar and the bench as he was among the judges most respected for their judicial acumen, command over the law, honesty and integrity.

He never spoke of court matters, and even if his friends came to him for favours, he politely changed the subject, reminisced a staff member. Another lawyer spoke about how he was strict towards state functionaries and other official respondents but was always understanding. At the same time, he would always try to settle disputes amicably.

The reference was held in the SHC’s Chief Justice’s courtroom and Chief Justice Musheer Alam, the Sindh additional advocate general, deputy attorney general, Sindh Bar Association honorary secretary and Karachi Bar Association secretary addressed the gathering.
