Bacha Khan Medical Complex Swabi gets state-of-the-art laboratory

A state-of-the-art laboratory has been formally inaugurated at Bacha Khan Medical Complex MTI, Swabi, with officials saying it would offer a full range of modern diagnostic facilities.

The facility, established above the new emergency block of the teaching hospital, was inaugurated by former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Labour Minister Faisal Khan Tarkai, who jointly cut the ribbon at the ceremony.

UNICEF K-P Health Team Lead Dr Inamullah, members of the hospital administration, and MTI Swabi board member Dr Tufail Muhammad, along with other dignitaries, were also in attendance.

Hospital Director Dr Khalid Masood briefed the visiting delegation on the laboratory’s capabilities, stating that it was equipped with all essential modern diagnostic services, including microbiology, haematology, histopathology, TB culture, and other advanced testing facilities.

Following the inauguration, the delegation visited various sections of the laboratory, where Head of the Pathology Department Prof Dr Nazish Babar and her team provided detailed briefings on the available facilities.

According to a spokesperson, the laboratory had been constructed with funds provided by Asad Qaiser worth Rs60 million. Earlier, modern operation theatres were also inaugurated at the hospital.

The spokesperson added that the facility would benefit not only residents of Swabi but also people from surrounding districts. A solar power system has been installed to ensure uninterrupted services, while the laboratory includes a fully functional blood bank, microbiology department, automated analysers, and trained staff.

Plans are also underway to establish sample collection points in different areas, while advanced testing services such as Hb electrophoresis, bone marrow analysis, TB culture, and histopathology will be introduced soon.

On the occasion, Faisal Khan Tarkai and Asad Qaiser assured the hospital administration of their continued support for further improvements.
