Shia LaBeouf has been formally charged in connection with an alleged altercation that took place during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans earlier this year.
Court records filed in Orleans Parish show that the actor faces three misdemeanour counts of simple battery following an incident that allegedly occurred after midnight on February 17, 2026, in the city’s French Quarter. The charges were formally filed by the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office on May 21.
According to police reports previously cited by local media outlets, officers responded to reports of a disturbance outside a bar during Mardi Gras festivities. Authorities allege that LaBeouf became involved in a confrontation with several individuals after being removed from the venue.
Police documents state that the actor allegedly struck one person before leaving the area and later returned, where investigators claim he assaulted the same individual again along with a second person before officers arrived at the scene. Law enforcement sources also said paramedics treated LaBeouf for injuries after the confrontation.
LaBeouf was initially arrested on two counts of simple battery shortly after the incident. He was later arrested again on February 28 in connection with an additional misdemeanour battery charge linked to the same case.
During a court hearing in February, a judge ordered the actor to enter substance abuse treatment, undergo regular drug testing and post a $100,000 bond as conditions of his release. LaBeouf later posted bond and has remained out of custody while legal proceedings continue.
One alleged victim previously claimed that the actor was behaving aggressively before the incident escalated. The individual alleged that LaBeouf shouted at patrons and used offensive language during the confrontation. Those claims remain allegations and have not been proven in court.
Video footage published by TMZ appeared to show LaBeouf shirtless outside the bar while receiving treatment from emergency responders. Following his release from custody, the actor was later photographed on Bourbon Street carrying paperwork connected to his release from jail.
LaBeouf has spoken publicly in previous years about his struggles with addiction, mental health and sobriety. The actor has faced multiple legal controversies throughout his career, including arrests tied to disorderly conduct, intoxication and public disturbances.
In recent years, LaBeouf relocated to New Orleans after reports emerged that he and actor Mia Goth had separated in 2025. The former couple share a daughter born in 2022.
At the time of publication, LaBeouf’s legal representatives had not publicly commented on the latest charges. The penalties connected to the misdemeanour counts have not yet been confirmed by the court.
