Lawyers have extended their boycott of court proceedings in protest against the government's reluctance to transfer the city's senior superintendent of police, who is at the centre of a grueling controversy with the lawyers community.
The District Bar Association (DBA), along with the Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA), announced on Wednesday that they will continue the complete shutdown of court activities until March 1.
The dispute between the lawyers and the SSP has been ongoing, with tensions rising on Wednesday as lawyers intensified their protest. As a result, thousands of cases remained unheard, causing disruption to legal proceedings. Lawyers blocked entry to the courts, preventing not only police but also litigants, stamp vendors, biometric staff, and canteen operators from entering the premises.
The protesting lawyers gathered near the central gate of the Sessions Court building, where they shouted slogans against the SSP.
