MIRPUR (AJK): In response to a long-standing demand of the local Christian community, the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) is proposing a site for the construction of the first-ever Church in Mirpur city, Pastor Reverind Saalik M Gill told The Express Tribune on Wednesday.

Gill said the Azad Kashmir government has directed the Mirpur district administration to implement the proposal by reserving a suitable piece of land for building the church. He said the revenue department has already pointed out a site in Afzalpur, Chachiyan, near Mirpur city for the project.

Its really a good news and I think its time for the Azad Kashmir government to give complete protection to religious minorities, including Ahmedis, Christians, Bhais as well as atheists, who had to live in low profile in different areas, i.e. Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, Rawlakot...

The state government should also ban direct funding from Arab countries like Saudi Arabia and Kuwait for seminaries to promote extremism...
