Unknown gunmen carried out a fatal attack on the local president of the Awami National Party (ANP) and his associate in the Terai area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Karak district, Express News reported.

The attack targeted Mustajab Alam, the ANP president of Banda Daud Shah tehsil, and his companion. The shooting occurred late on Saturday, with the vehicle being sprayed with bullets.

Police quickly responded to the scene, gathering evidence and launching an investigation. The bodies of the victims were transferred to the morgue after completing formalities, and were later handed over to their family members.

Authorities have yet to confirm the motive behind the attack, but local political figures and law enforcement agencies have expressed concern over rising violence in the region. Investigations are ongoing.

KP province has seen an uptick in militant attacks in recent months, with Islamabad blaming Afghan nationals and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants, who reportedly cross over from Afghanistan.

However, the Taliban government in Kabul has denied these allegations, asserting that Pakistan's security issues are its internal matter.
