In a candid conversation on The Graham Norton Show, actress Nicola Coughlan opened up about her mum’s reaction to the sizzling sex scenes in Bridgerton. Known for her role as Penelope Featherington in the hit Netflix series, Coughlan shared the funny and somewhat awkward moment when her mother reacted strongly to the romantic scenes with her co-star, Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton.

During her appearance, Coughlan revealed that her mum was "so mad" at her for the scenes, as if it were her fault. This led to an amusing situation where Coughlan chose not to attend the screening with her mother. The 35-year-old actress admitted that she found it "weird" to play the romantic lead in Bridgerton's third season, especially with the more intimate and explicit moments featured on screen.

The storyline, which centered around Penelope and Colin (affectionately called "Polin" by fans), included several passionate and steamy moments that captivated viewers. While fans were enamored with the chemistry between the characters, Coughlan’s mum, like many parents, wasn’t as thrilled by the scenes.

While Coughlan's portrayal of Penelope has won over many fans, it was clear that her mum wasn’t exactly fond of the racy material. Still, this behind-the-scenes moment adds to the charm of Coughlan’s candid and down-to-earth personality. The actress, who rose to fame in Derry Girls, navigated this new, mature role in Bridgerton with both humor and professionalism, ensuring she remained true to herself amidst the attention the series garners.

Fans of Bridgerton are already eagerly anticipating the next season, but it seems that for some, watching steamy scenes with family can come with its own set of challenges!
