Michael C. Hall has expressed full support for Dexter: Original Sin, the prequel series to Showtime's original crime drama. According to showrunner Clyde Phillips, Hall’s endorsement was "crucial" to the project’s creative and emotional resonance. Phillips highlighted the audience's connection to Hall, who narrates the series while Patrick Gibson portrays a younger Dexter Morgan.
During the show’s premiere at New York’s SVA Theater, Phillips shared how Hall actively participated in the series' production, even appearing on set to interact with cast members like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Patrick Dempsey, and Christina Milian. Hall’s camaraderie with Patrick Gibson, in particular, left an impact, with Phillips noting how Gibson subtly adapted Hall's mannerisms to enhance his portrayal.
The prequel delves into Dexter's earlier years as a college senior navigating his dark impulses. Guided by his father Harry, played by Christian Slater, young Dexter develops his infamous "Code" to target society's worst offenders while avoiding law enforcement detection. The show also explores Dexter’s internship at Miami Metro Police, offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of a serial killer.
Phillips, who helmed the original series' first four seasons, emphasized the prequel's fresh perspective. "We’re seeing him succumb or embrace fate, which makes this journey compelling," he explained.
The highly anticipated Dexter: Original Sin premieres on Paramount+ with Showtime on December 13, promising fans a darker, more introspective look at the origins of one of television’s most iconic antiheroes.
