Lahore Zoo welcomes seven new lion cubs

Seven lion cubs born at Lahore Safari Zoo, adding to a growing population of big cats at the park.

Lahore Safari Zoo has recently welcomed seven lion cubs into its family, zoo's director confirmed on Friday.

The cubs were born to three lionesses, with one lioness giving birth to three cubs, while the other two each had two cubs. Among the new arrivals, two of the cubs are white.

In addition to the lion cubs, three healthy Royal Bengal tiger cubs were also born at the zoo in recent weeks.

According to the zoo's director, Tanveer Ahmed Janjua, all the cubs are healthy. However, four of the lion cubs were not accepted by their mothers and are being hand-fed by the zoo staff.

Before the lion cubs, three Royal Bengal tiger cubs were born a few weeks ago. With the birth of these new cubs, the lion population at the zoo has grown from 22 to 29.

Veterinary experts explained that big cats sometimes reject their newborns if they sense any defects, which is why some cubs need to be bottle-fed.

Earlier, Karachi Zoo welcomed three healthy lion cubs, born to a lioness, zoo officials confirmed.

The lioness and her cubs were reported to be in good health, and the public was expected to see the newborns in approximately two months when they reached eight weeks of age.

Photos shared by zoo authorities showed the cubs thriving under their mother's care.

The death of the Bengal tigress, aged 30, was attributed to natural causes, according to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) officials.

Bengal tigers typically live between 18 and 20 years, making the tigress's lifespan exceptionally long.
